Tom

Comedy lost one of its best and brightest yesterday. Equally adept at playing the goofball or the straight man, Tom Poston was a class act all the way.

Just a couple of weeks ago when Kitty Carlisle Hart passed away I posted a clip from To Tell the Truth where one of the other panelists was the wonderful Tom Poston. News of his passing came along yesterday. This one makes me more sad than I would have expected what with the whole "long life, well lived" thing. Someone who made it to 85, had such talent and such a great career and a seemingly contented and fun personal life - well - it's hard not to just say "good for you", applaud those 85 years and smile. But this one makes me sad. Like most people of my generation I first saw Tom Poston on "Newhart" in the 80's, but the way I will remember him, and the way I most enjoyed him was on The Steve Allen Show.

I got the following sad email just now from The Leaugue of American Theatres. A long life, well lived. What a classy, classy lady.

It is with great sadness that we let you know that stage and film legend, Kitty Carlisle Hart passed away on Tuesday, April 17. She was chairperson of New York State Council of the Arts for 20 years, and a lifelong advocate for the arts. In her memory, the lights on Broadway marquees will be dimmed this evening.

When I think of her I think not just of her many accomplishments, but of Moss Hart and George Gershwin and oddly enough, The Simpsons and the gag done well over a decade ago involving the "perectly preserved head of Kitty Carlisle Hart".

All about Kitty Carlisle Hart

A fun film clip from "To Tell the Truth"

She was the best.

On finding comfort in the authenticness of felt and googly eyes.

When your girlfriend with kids (aka Mrs. Robby Disco) emails you a link for something that is, and I quote, worse than Barney, you really start to worry. What kind of crap has she been forced to watch by short people? Well...here it is....Hip Hop Harry. Wow. What can you say? Is this supposed to be, I don't know, urban or something? If it is, why is he at a suburban community centre with a bunch of medicated looking kids? The Robeau took a look and is distressed that the bear has such light coloured fur. I'm just distressed. Mostly because I can't get "When I say Hip Hop, you say Harry!" out of my head. It's unreal.

I went on Youtube to try and find an antidote and found this freakin' GEM from the good people at the Children's Television Workshop. You want URBAN Harry you Bastard? I've got your urban RIGHT HERE!

After I watched the Subway song I got a little sad. I mean they just don't make kids shows like they used to, back in my day, right? Then I found something recent from Sesame Street.

(Insert drum roll here)

"Law and Order, Special Letters Unit". Bless their urban little hearts, spoofing a CRIME DRAMA ABOUT RAPE VICTIMS!!!! Also, I'm pretty convinced Belzer is doing his own voice and that means that Munch has now appeared on something like 42 different shows on 7 different networks. I love everything this stands for. Suck it Bernie. Take the gas pipe Hip Hop Harry. The Muppets still rule the city.

I know what you're thinking...

You think that Relaxo ate me. Well fear not, Bloggy McBloggerson, "Participatction" has not been the end of me. I am alive, just not alive on the intornet. As mentioned earlier, Blogger is indeed being a douche. Of course, if you are reading this, the douchery has subsided at least temporarily and I shouldn't bite the hand that feeds me. For free. Thank you Blogger. I adore you. Even when you're being a giant douche.

Relaxo is treating me well, thanks to all the great music suggestions that you sent my way. I've also downloaded a bunch of "Arrested Development" tunes - remember that great Hip Hop act that was popular in early 90s? GREAT workout music. Just great.

Expect updates really soon on The Lincoln Centre Jazz Orchestra and Wynton Marsalis and Toronto's newest jazz club Live @ Courthouse. Also, Golden Thai Curry. That's something that I want to talk about a lot. I'm not kidding. A LOT.

In the meantime, please enjoy this disgusting and amusing bit of yester-year. And you thought there was only one!

I am NOT done!

Now I'm done. Feel free to go about your business, you MINDSTICKERS!

I want to be a Mind-sticker!

I don't have much time to write here Bloggy McBloggerson. It's only two days until Valentine's Day. And I have a LOT of Tab to drink before then. Confused? This will explain everything.
