Introducing MTN Media Relations

4.4.07

Towards the end of 2006 I accepted an offer from my talented friend Andrew Scott to represent him as his Publicist. The role has been a good fit for me, allowing me to utilize the skills I've developed over the years as a "multi-hyphenate" in the Toronto Arts and Entertainment scene and letting me do the thing I love to do above most anything else...talk about great jazz music.

If you are a regular on this blog you know just how talented Mr. Scott is and can imagine that selling him and his music is probably just about the easiest thing I've ever had to do. After almost six months of working in this capacity for Andrew I've decided that it is going well enough (both in terms of success and enjoyment) for me to "hang out my shingle", so, without further ado, I give you MTN Media Relations.

I'm very proud of this website, which was designed by the wonderful artist Kurt Firla. You'll remember his great work on the poster for "Letters to Liam" last fall. I like that the image it projects is a feminine one. This world I've entered into (like so many that I've worked and lived in) is a boys club and I want to maintain and quite frankly, flaunt the fact that I'm a girl. I believe it is one of my greatest assets, in this and any other line of work I take on.

While I am absolutely relishing this new project and the jazz writing and photography I am also taking on with more frequency, I am still gainfully employed by the good people at CSIS. I love that job and it still pays the bills. My passion for jazz would find me in a homeless shelter eating Mr. Noodles if I didn't have a "day job" to support it. I'm not prepared to sit at the side of the road holding a sign that says "Will tell you what jazz music to listen to for food". Not yet anyway.

This is the part where I make you work

With the addition of the new website to my online presence I am considering switching templates for 'ol Bloggy McBloggerson here. What do you all think of this template? I like it a lot. I think it's clean and simple and says "Hey, sit down and enjoy a cup of joe with Miss Tracey Nolan". I also DON'T like it (in fact, I kind of hate it) because it's not THIS template, which although it's been slagged with great frequency for its run of the mill-ness and green colour is a sort of home for me. I find it comforting or something. I'd be thrilled if you could weigh in and let me know what you think about this template issue. What say you, pals of mine? Should Bloggy McBloggerson get a makeover? Do you think he would look good in a pohawk?

  1. I find the green soothing--"green room" kind of thing, I guess. I find the new one kind of jangly, which I get enough of in this world, personally.

When I get famous (at...what?), I want you to be my agent, too.

  2. I'm on it Greeny. OK. that's one for the Green Room (I love that). I'm leaning in the direction now too. Thanks for the input, appreciate it!

It is time for spring cleaning and redecorating.

Black Tarantula likes the comfortable familiarity of the green room, but Caftan Woman says go for the cuppajoe!

  4. Your cyber office is impressive and refreshingly feminine. I see you as a Rosalind Russell type exec. Perks: in "Take a Letter, Darling" (1942) her secretary was Fred MacMurray.

I think I like the "green room" template better too... I'm not sure! I don't want to say I don't like the other one though...

(Kudos for flaunting the feminine in a boys-club! I know the feeling! Keep it up.)

  6. Congratulations on your new venture. I know I'll be saying, "I knew her when!"

I love, love, love the website.

I say switch to the new template. It has a fresh look. I didn't want to switch from my old template, but I'm glad I did. The new template for a new life adventure.

I'm excited for you, Miss Tracey.

MP says...it's a good time of year to move, I'll miss the green but it's not about the colour, it's all the content

  10. First of all..
Fancy mcSchmancy on the new Website! Go MTN Prods.

    About the new template...
    Everything looks great EXCEPT!!!

I cannot get over that...is it a biscotti bit? I saw it and I thought, "Turd. Not what I like with MY coffee."

I tried not to think it, but it kept creeping back. This probably says way more about my state of mind than about the actual photo.

I should probably have kept this to myself.

    Hi Tracey,
I leave comments anonymously cause then I don't have to remember sign in info. I LOVE the MTN website, it's sheer femininity is so refreshing! About the blog, I like the soothing green blogsite. I find the green more appealing than the white of your new proposed blog-spot. The white reminds me of the hospital. Maybe you could add a cuppa image to the green layout?

  12. Everyone, thank you so much for all of your feedback. It's great to hear from you all! I think Greeny is safe for now. I like old shoes.

  13. The MTN site is amazing! I've been thinking of doing something like that for my fledgling script consultantcy/photography biz. Do I need to add that I love all the PINK?!

Hmm, your new blog site is nice but I agree with Cece, it does need some color. Maybe a nice wash of something caramel-y in the background to go with the coffee theme? Or, you could go with pink for a nice contrast (and girly) tone.
