Nespresso VertuoLine: longer cup, longer smiles.

A couple of months ago, I posted a status on Facebook asking my friends their opinions on countertop espresso makers. Winter was settling in and I was desperate to get my fix without leaving the house.  I was picturing an old school machine, definitely not something with pods as I was a card carrying member of the pod-snob-squad.  Much to my surprise, everyone starting raving about Nespresso.  Fellow coffee lovers were singing its praises quite passionately.  My curiosity was piqued.  Then, at an amazing American Thanksgiving Party at our friend Kelly's house she made me a long espresso on her Nespresso.  I was hooked.

But you know how it goes, suddenly it's Christmas and you get too busy and too strapped for cash to buy a fancy coffee maker.  Then it's the new year and well, you just don't do it. But the idea was always in the back of my head.  That's why I was so excited to be invited to a special event at the beautiful new Nespresso boutique in Toronto last week.  If you get a chance to drop by the cafe on Cumberland, you really must.  It's beautiful.

From the moment I got there it was obvious this event was something serious, but I still had no idea why we were there. After an opportunity to look around, mingle and enjoy some champagne, Chef David Rocco came onstage and introduced the crowd to what Nespresso is calling a revolution in the coffee business.

Nespresso may have the market cornered on espresso but here in North America, we like a big mug of Joe in the morning, don't we?  I know I do.  Even as a fan of the flavour of an espresso I'm much more likely to grab an Americano or a good old cup drip brewed coffee in the AM.  Well, the coffee experts at Nespresso seem to have us figured out, because their new system, the VertuoLine gives us just that.  A long brewed coffee with that delicious flavour they deliver in their espresso and a beautiful crema.  That's what sold me, the crema.  It's magnificent.  Texture, fragrance, flavour....they've got it all covered.

Also, like everything Nespresso does, the design is impeccable.  This machine is a sleek stunner available in red, chrome and black.  I was thrilled to take a VertuoLine home that night and have been enjoying not just the delicious long brewed coffee and espresso but how gorgeous the machine looks on my countertop.

No, that's not actually my countertop (natch) but it looks almost this good in my house.
I'm looking forward to the first dinner party we throw with the new VertuoLine in the house, because of all the wonderful post-meal coffee options we'll be able to offer our guests.  We're talking different roasts, flavours and even half-caff options.  Good stuff.

Mostly though, I'm enjoying starting my days with this delicious easy to make coffee and the beautiful machine. Technology in action, folks.  The future is now and it's delicious...and I'm awake for it!

The VertuoLine will be available for purchase beginning March 1, 2014.
