There is no explaining this to me...

I realize that this isn't going to make me any friends, but I have to say it. I just do not care about the World Cup. At all. Not even a little bit. For some reason I can't stop thinking about 8 years ago when I was living with the Robeau in his bachelor pad which was sandwiched between Little Korea and Little Portugal and both those teams kept winning, damn it! The exhaust fumes from all the cars parading down the street, the drunks, the street fights, the creepy nationalistic chest thumping...all over a boring ass game where people chase a ball around a field? Really? I. Don't. Get. It.

The NBA Championships are still going on. Wimbeldon is coming up. The Yankees are only 1 game behind in the East. And 75 million people around the world are fixated on the most boring sport in the world?

On another note, if you want a fix of the real human drama that sport can bring check out this amazing HBO documentary on Magic and Bird. Watched it yesterday and was completely blown away.

I have not had the guts to say it before now... but I do not care about the World Cup either!! Phew. Good to get that out.

  2. I don't have to watch the Magic/Larry film. Garry did, and in that sweet way of his, told me all about it!

World Cup memory. It is 1988 and most of the Hall family is glued to screen which is suddenly filled with the original "3 Tenors" concert. Newlywed Garry rushes to tell bride. She is ecstatic. Hall sibs wonder what kind of woman Garry has brought into the family.

Does the WC have a "best actor" category?

  3. I like the World Cup. It's cool that they're all playing football in South Africa. Running around and kicking the much maligned ball by Adidas. And I've learned a new word, vuvuzela!

  4. I admit I had a brief period where, when I found a soccer match (Game? Meet? What the hell do they call those things?) on tv I'd watch the shit out of it. Why? Because it's the only sport I know of where absolutely all the players are good looking. Maybe not all Male-Model-In-Vogue good looking, but the hotness, nonetheless.

The thing that irritates me most about the World Cup coverage is that suddenly, out of freakin' nowhere, the US media is pretending we care about soccer. We just plain don't.

Tracey, I am so with you on this one.
