New Year, New Look, New Outlook.

26.1.09

Well, today I turn 35. How do you like that? To mark the occasion I decided to spruce up my little corner of the internet. I hope you like the new sugary look here. After five years I felt it was time for a change. I wanted something that complimented the colour scheme of my business website which is unapologetically pink and girly but I also wanted something that symbolized how I'm feeling right now. While I'm, shall we say, nonplussed with my ever increasing age I'm not focused on it. For the last six days I've been grinning ear to ear and I think we all know why. Yes. We. Do.

Every time I hear someone on CNN or CBC radio refer to "President Obama" I stop dead in my tracks. How can they utter those words so nonchalantly? "PRESIDENT OBAMA today signed an order..." Like it ain't no thing? PRESIDENT. OBAMA. Even typing it feels surreal somehow. As a non American I am so proud of my American friends. As a human I'm just proud. Proud of my generation, proud of people's ability to be resilient, proud of this man - his integrity, his dignity and his abilities. His ability to instill confidence and optimism in us at a time when everything, I mean everything has seemed so bleak.

I feel like I knew the moment I first saw him that this man represented our collective future and I know I'm not the only one. I'm proud most of all that we were right about that. That "we" made it happen.

So on my birthday, six days after the most extraordinary day I will ever live to see I'll leave you with this: It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life...for all of us. Congratulations.

  1. Nice post...I think you really say what a lot of Americans are thinking. It's nice to have a break from what had, begrudgingly, become the norm.

Happy Birthday, Miss Tracey. May this new year continue to be bright and hopeful for all of us.
